Do I need a referral to see a psychologist?

No, you do not need a referral to book an appointment. However, if you wish to claim a Medicare rebate, you will need a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) from your GP. Self-referrals are welcome and no clinical diagnosis is required.

How long is a typical session?

Standard consultation sessions run for approximately 50 minutes. This allows time for us to explore what is bringing you to therapy and work towards your goals at a sustainable pace.

Can I claim a Medicare rebate for psychology sessions?

Yes. With a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP, you can access up to 10 rebated psychology sessions per calendar year (January–December). Your GP will initially refer you for six sessions, and after a review they can extend the referral for the remaining four. Private health insurance rebates may also be available depending on your level of cover. Please see the Appointments page for full details.

Do you offer online therapy?

Yes. I offer both online and in-person sessions. Telehealth sessions are conducted via a secure video platform and are available to clients anywhere in Australia. Many people find online therapy just as effective as face-to-face, and it offers greater flexibility around work and family commitments.

What happens in the first session?

The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other. I will ask about what has brought you to therapy, your background, and what you are hoping to achieve. There is no pressure to share more than you feel comfortable with. By the end of the session we will have a clearer sense of whether working together feels right, and begin to outline a plan for treatment.

What is the complimentary 20-minute call?

Before we begin, I offer a free 20-minute introductory call. This is a chance for you to ask any questions, get a sense of how I work, and for us to see whether we might be a good fit. There is no obligation to proceed. You can book this call through the Contact page.

How many sessions will I need?

This varies from person to person and depends on what you are working through. Some people find that a short course of 6–10 sessions gives them the tools they need. Others benefit from longer-term therapy, particularly when working with complex trauma, longstanding patterns, or relationship difficulties. We will review your progress together as we go and you are always in control of the pace.

What is the difference between a psychologist and a psychiatrist?

Psychologists and psychiatrists are both mental health professionals, but with different training and roles. Psychiatrists are medical doctors who can prescribe medication. Psychologists have specialised postgraduate training in psychological assessment and evidence-based therapy — the kind of talking therapy that helps you understand and change patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving. Many people work with both, or with a psychologist alone.

What is EMDR therapy?

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based therapy originally developed for trauma and PTSD. It works by helping the brain process distressing memories that have become 'stuck', reducing their emotional intensity and the way they affect your present life. EMDR does not require you to talk through your trauma in detail, which many clients find a relief. I have extensive training in EMDR and use it as a primary approach for trauma, anxiety, and grief.

What is Schema Therapy?

Schema Therapy is an integrative approach that explores the deep-rooted patterns — or 'schemas' — that develop in childhood and shape how we see ourselves, others, and the world. It is particularly effective for longstanding difficulties such as chronic depression, relationship problems, low self-worth, and complex trauma. It incorporates elements of cognitive therapy, attachment theory, and parts work to help you understand and gradually heal these patterns.

Do you offer couples counselling?

Yes. I work with couples seeking to strengthen their relationship, improve communication, and repair after conflict or rupture. I draw on the Gottman Method (Levels 1 & 2) and Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT) — two of the most research-supported approaches to couples therapy. Both partners attend sessions together.

Do you work with neurodivergent clients, including ADHD and autism?

Yes. I take a neuroaffirming approach, which means I work with your neurology rather than against it. I support adults with ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, and those who are exploring whether they may be neurodivergent. Therapy focuses on building self-understanding, developing strategies that fit how your brain works, and addressing any co-occurring difficulties such as anxiety or burnout.

Can I have sessions in Serbian, Bosnian, or Croatian?

Yes. In addition to English, I offer sessions in Serbian, Bosnian, and Croatian. For many people, being able to speak in their first language deepens the therapeutic work and makes it easier to express complex emotions. Please mention your language preference when you get in touch.

Do you offer clinical supervision?

Yes. I am a board approved supervisor with the Psychology Board of Australia and offer clinical supervision to psychologists and registrars. Supervision sessions are tailored to your professional development needs and the cases you are working with. Please get in touch to discuss your supervision requirements.

What is the cancellation policy?

A minimum of 48 hours notice is required to cancel or reschedule an appointment. Sessions cancelled without adequate notice will incur a fee. If you need to reschedule, please contact me as soon as possible so I can offer your time to someone on the waitlist.
